Sweet Exhibition - Private View Thursday 7th April

SWEET is a collaborative group exhibition fusing moving image and hand drawn illustration focusing on the playful nature of illustration, animation and the interaction of space. Driven by hand rendered and tangible image making, the artists involved are all greatly influenced and inspired by bold, bright colours and pattern. SWEET brings these individual techniques together in a vibrant and interactive way.

h1gs_mattlloyd

Oliver Dunn is a Leeds based artist specialising in hand drawn illustration. His bold line and patterns creep up canvases and wrap around trainers making ordinary everyday objects more fun.

Lynnie Zulu, a recent graduate from Kingston University, specialises in illustration. Lynnie’s use of bright colours and free flowing paint strokes bring her illustrations to life with a psychedelic tribal twist.

Sam Szulc also based in Leeds, focuses on the hand drawn. Sam is influenced by folk art and low-tech style with a use of bold line drawing and bright paint strokes.

Matt Lloyd is a London based illustrator and animator who focuses on hand drawn illustration and will be creating a hand drawn 2D animation especially for the exhibition.

John Malcolm Moore, Tom Bunker & Ben Brown join forces to create mind blowing 3D animations and will be exhibiting their collaborative work as well as some individual pieces.

Stephany Pollard is a Leeds born, London based prop maker and artist driven by vivid colour, geometric shapes and shiny objects who will be creating a window installation for the exhibition.

Big K.R.I.T - 'Return of 4eva'

RETURNFINALCOVER

Long before the Stanky Leg, D4L and snap music, Southern Rap has had a tradition of real lyricism - from UGK, 8Ball and MJG to Goodie Mob and Outkast. As with most scenes, a time comes when the wave of the current is too much and the antithesis is a new generation going against the grain. Just as Gucci, Flocka, Young Dro and Yo Gotti all deserve props in their own right southern rappers such as Pill, Yelawolf and Big K.R.I.T are returning to snappin on beats with lyrical integrity over dance moves and chain swinging.

Big K.R.I.T dropped 'Return of 4eva' yesterday and it's been on heavy rotation since, this free album of 21 tracks have all been produced by K.R.I.T and features the likes of David Banner, Bun B and Raheem DeVaughn.

"History of Macabre Unit" Mix // Forthcoming 'Education EP'

EDUCATION-LP_Main

Slowly but surely it seems as though the ever increasing demand and request for old grime instrumentals and vocals, that only ever came out on vinyl, to be re-released is finally being taken notice of.

Fairly recently there has been the Avalanche Music series that so far has featured 3 instrumental compilations featuring early and more recent productions from JME, Wiley & Crayzee Banditt.

In a similar way the Macabre Unit have put together an EP of their classic productions, VIP's and unreleased dubplates right from the beginning of their career up to their more recent material as well.

In order to celebrate this fantastic release, DJ T_! has put together a 65 minute "History of Macabre Unit" mix on 3 decks which showcases a whole load of instrumentals and vocal tracks from the crew from 2002 - 2011.

Graphotsim Nov/Dec 2000

IMG_3056
Having dug through the archives a couple of weeks back I came across this copy of Graphotism from 2000.

For those that remember pre-large book issues, Graphotism's monthly publication was a must cop. Featuring great images from across Europe and pieces and interviews with those involved in the culture as a whole. This issue comprised of a Londonnewyorkpunkrockhiphop feature, interviews with Afria Islam, DonLetts, Dennis Morris and Anita Sarko. An interview with James Lavelle pre-drop of the Futura2000 book on Mo' Wax and a piece on the Sprite Urban Games in Clapham (remember that!?). Mo' Wax were pretty legendary on the design front. Futura's characters for Unkle are as memorable as the music and Ben Dury has gone on to do some pretty decent work for Dizzee Rascal in recent years, culminating in the Dirtee Stank Air Max 90 in 09.
